Starting Out

The Australian Manufacturing Workers’ Union works with young workers to promote fairness and provide protection in their employment and training.

The AMWU can help you understand your legal rights at work. When starting out in the workplace sometimes you need advice or just reassurance about something. The union is there to help you every step of the way, and no question is unimportant.

We recognise that starting a new job can sometimes be daunting and may hold some fears for you.

Especially when starting an apprenticeship, there are a few things you should know. Your employer has certain obligations to you, and you have some responsibilities as well.

The AMWU can help you make sense of these rights and obligations. Experienced industrial staff are available to provide you with individual industrial advice, represent you with your employer or your training provider, and help you make connections with other apprentices across your industry.The AMWU can provide information and assistance with the following;

  • Your Contract of Employment
  • Your Contract of Training
  • Your Training Plan
  • Your training on the job
  • Your Working Hours
  • Health and Safety at work
  • Understanding your payslip
